MAXOTIC is a generic term developed to describe the dynamics of the Caribbean regional
condition. MAXOTIC is the acronym that finds its meaning in the following words Metropolitan
Economic Social Archipelago Unique Eclectic or simply put “Metropolitan Eclectic”. It is the idea
of considering the functioning of the Caribbean or any formation of a similar nature, as a
Metropolitan Eclectic. A series of network urban and island behaviors that incorporates each
islands’ assets and special dynamics, to create a unique community of urban and island
experiences focused on a common future. It represents the idea of looking at the Caribbean from
the perspective of a single operating nation of islands.
The people of the MAXOTIC would be called Maxotians.
Population: 65 million [forty-five million and twenty million diasporas so a total of plus or minus
sixty-five million people]
Reasoning
To establish a true foundation, a point of departure for us as a people, at this time in history seems
unreasonable and even to some ill-advised, taking not of the many factors that would come to play in
making such an assertion – global designations, cultural historical imbedded perspectives, and the many
clear sequential protocols that are related to this region.
To date it is an accepted fact that this region called the Caribbean, owes its regional designation to the
assertions of Christopher Columbus, which was done to facilitate a clear funding and support objective.
This region in the early 1400s and before was occupied by over four different people groups; namely,
the Ciboney, Igneri [Arawak], Guanahatabey, Taino, Lucayan, and the Kalinago [Carib] people. It is very
troubling to note that Columbus strategically or with personal greed at its core; concocted a branding
scheme that has stigmatized our region for the last seven centuries.
